| Gambling. Many people lose newly found fortunes, or maybe make a fortune. Is it a good thing? What are some advantages to gambling? Discuss.

| I've never gambled (maybe because I'm underage xD); Honestly, it's fine for hobby but everyone goes aboard with it and it becomes a problem. Anything over excess is a bad thing..always remember that =)

| gambling is okay... i think i gamble the best way. Once you place chips down on the table assume they are no longer yours. This will allow you to be happily surprised when/if you get money back and to not be heart broken when you do not get money back.

| I have always been scared of gambling, I have never played for real big things, but I was forced in family reunion to get our cents and play some rounds. It is exciting to win, specially when you are not expecting it.
I think gambling is just like with anything, you can't let your feelings cloud your judgement. I think if you like gambling then you should define very well what money can be used for gambling and which one not. And be a good loser and respect it when things doesn't go your way, instead of being stubborn and keep risking more money because 'this time you will do it'.
I am afraid of gambling seriously because there are many people that do a living like this and know all kind of cheats and tricks to exploit the system of whatever game you are playing with them.

More fun is had by instead merely taking a set amount and slowly using it. Win or lose you do not have the specter of "i must win" clinking to you. this of course is merely my thoughts on the matter.

| Never been into it, only on Read Dead Redemption - which is a video game. Probably never will bet money in real life. IF I were to ever take the plunge, I'd only put in what I can afford, then leave it.
Once again, to each their own. I can't really debate whether it's right or wrong. It's addictive like smoking, alcohol can be, over-eating etc. People have their problems with gambling, it can turn them dark and full of regrets. It's their problem though and it doesn't make gambling as a whole 'wrong' or 'right,' it just makes it a choice.

| It's funny you put this thread here. I'm in a Casino class right now for College and there are NO advantages of gambling.
People who gamble don't know when is the limit, so even when they win, they will use the money they just won to try to win more money and a bigger sum. People who are gamblers get addicted fast and a lot of them don't know when it's time to stop. Did you know that at the casinos there are a lot of people who wear diapers so they don't have to get up to go to the washroom? Isn't that just a bit too far?
People will literally be there for sometimes days until they passout or they get to the point where they just can't function right and the casino security have to kick them out.
Many many people have lost their family, their friends even their homes to gambling.
So is there any good side to gambling? I do not believe there is.

Gambling may be risky but it isn't good or bad.... frankly I like to be in control of my odds. I don't hav an issue with gambling but I do have an issue with those who take advantage of someone less disciplined.

| That about the diapers really surprised me. The people that do that are very addicted. I wonder if some WoW players do that as well, hahah.
But yeah, I agree that it is dangerous if you overestimate yourself and make it an habit and do not learn to balance it. there have been times playing poker where I am almost certain i am going to win, I have a very good hand yet someone else got luckier against all odds. Nothing is set in stone. We don't bet real money, it is all with the chips, that is enough thrill for me.
I also heard someone comment that casinos uses chips because you are more likely to bet more if you are not seeing the actual notes/coins. I think you have to be aware that a lot of the machines have some tamper, as the casino has to protect itself not to lose more than what people get in. There will always be winners, specially with the minor prices to wake your greed and fool you into thinking it will be a bliss or a matter of a few tries) to hit it again.

| No, I don't think gambling is right at all. My aunt has an addiction with gambling. It's not always going to casinos, but it's mostly with those scratch off tickets you can buy at the gas station. If she has the choice between scartch offs and food on the table, she will choose the scratch offs each time. And that is exactly what she chooses all the time.
So with my Uncle not working, he's on disability and he get some other money, I think, my aunt spends all of it on scratch offs. So he is left to ask family for money. It is very annoying, as most of our family is not in a good way to be supporting him.
