I never looked back once I started using a Mac some time ago. I found out about awesome apps made by indie developers and OS X in general is a complete breeze to use. The user interface of the whole OS along with the apps is to my liking as well, and mind you, I'm really picky when it comes to user interfaces but thankfully Apple did a good job and developers are continuing to improve their apps when it comes to the user experience.
I can't imagine myself without a Mac now considering my apps are mostly compatible with OS X alone and they sync well with iOS so there's a stable bridge that connects the two which results in seamless integration. As for the hardware, my MacBook Pro lasted for years and I've never noticed any occurring problems with battery or performance. Of course, they lasted until I got myself a newer MBP since sometimes upgrades becomes a must for consumers and developers alike but it's never regretful.
The bottomline, however, is that despite the price tag you can be assured that the Mac will last you for many years and the experience you'll gain by doing so will be fruitful.
